Founded in 2019 by Bermudian fashion designer and marketing expert Kennette J. Burgess, Distinct Apparel is more than just a clothing brand—it’s a movement. With over 20 years of expertise in marketing, product management, and design, Kennette combined her love for Bermuda, tourism, and empowerment into a brand that celebrates individuality and bold expression. Distinct Apparel ensures that fashion is accessible to all, offering sizes from youth to adults up to plus sizes.
Inspired by the scripture in Exodus 8:23, “distinction” signifies God's divine choice, setting His people apart for a purpose. This biblical principle aligns with Distinct Apparel’s mission—helping individuals embrace their unique identity and purpose through fashion. To be distinct is to be chosen, empowered, and confident in who you are.

Distinct Apparel was created in response to a growing demand for Bermudian-owned, Black-owned, and Bermuda-themed designs that allow both locals and visitors to showcase their pride. Bermuda is truly another world—its beauty and its people are distinct.
Kennette, with family and her being plus-sized herself, recognized a significant gap in the fashion industry: a lack of high-quality, stylish clothing in extended sizes. Her late father, Kenneth ‘Pop’ Simmons, wore a size 4X, and she made it her mission to create clothing that not only fit but also felt and looked amazing.
